I meant to post this on Saturday, but my schedule didn’t allow the time for it. Sorry. But here’s the entry as I wrote it. Try to enjoy.
This is one of those rare Saturday entries…
I have been busy and my sleep schedule has been thrown all out of sorts. I try not to be a creature of habit, but I am. There’s no escaping the fact that I become a whiny little bastard when my sleep schedule is interrupted. I don’t like it. As a matter of fact, I HATE it!
And when my schedule gets all mixed up and mashed together to make me a tetchy little jerk, I tend not to be creative and willing to sit down at a computer and write these things. Does that make me a bad person? Or am I just lazy?
I have finished the entire series of ‘Sex And The City’. It took me a while, but I got there. The series ended about the way that I expected and I wasn’t let down. There’s only one thing that I would change. And that would be to kill off one of the main characters. If you have seen the series, then you know there’s an excellent way to do away with one of them. Why they didn’t take advantage of it, I don’t know.
Overall, I think the show was awesome. Even if you’re a man, you will dig ‘Sex And The City’.
If you read my blog regularly, then you know that I’m a Netflix junkie now. I tend to my queue like a professional gardener. I pluck out weeds like ‘The Devil’s Rejects’. I move things around, constantly arranging to fit my mood. I’ve also moved up to the five at a time program. It’s the new heroin and I’m on the “horse”, baby!
The other night, I sat down to watch ‘House Of 1000 Corpses’.
I’ve been a longtime fan of White Zombie and Rob Zombie. I’ve been impressed with the music videos that he’s directed and I thought that he would be an excellent director of horror films. I was wrong.
The movie was HORRIBLE! There was no horror at all. It seems that Mr. Zombie suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder. There is no focus to the film at all. His direction and script is all over the place and it went nowhere.
I have a “twenty minute” rule… If the film doesn’t keep my attention for 20 minutes, I bail out. I hit that 20-minute mark with ‘House Of 1000 Corpses’, but I kept watching anyway. I kept thinking that eventually everything would start to make sense. But it never did.
I made it through the damn thing like a dehydrated marathon runner with cramps crossing the finishing line. It was painful to watch and I immediately took its sequel, ‘The Devil’s Rejects’, off my queue. I cannot bear watching another attempt from Rob Zombie.
It was like an artsy horror movie made by someone with no attention span whatsoever. It was as if he wrote 3 different scripts, tacked every page of them to four walls, dipped a “super ball” in inked, gave it a mighty throw to let it bounce around the room, and let it chose the order of the script pages. I thought that he would do better than that.
Jah, straighten this man out!
I also watched the big screen version of ‘Bewitched’ over the last few days. It took a very different approach to making the transfer from the small-boxed screen, but it didn’t exactly work. Then again, it didn’t really fail either. I’m torn with the ‘Bewitched’ movie, but overall, I liked it.
Maybe, its because Nicole Kidman is in it. I’d chew on live scorpions to be with that woman.
I liked the fact that the movie wasn’t an exact reproduction of the TV show. They gave it a different spin. It was about a “washed up” film actor who has moved to television with a revised version of ‘Bewitched’. His ego won’t allow a well-known actress for “Samantha” so; he has the network go after someone off the street.
Jack Wyatt, the washed-up actor, finds Isabella wrinkling her nose in a bookstore and convinces her to become the new “Samantha”. What everyone doesn’t know about Isabella is that she really is a witch.
Then of course, a love story breaks out and the film treads the friendly waters of mediocrity. And I don’t know why, but I didn’t mind. It’s a fun movie. I want to hate it, but I can’t. I just can’t.
This weekend is a very busy one for me and I’ve managed to keep the Netflix DVDs flowing at a steady pace. I cannot have logjams; things have to be constantly moving. And again, if you want to add me to your Netflix “buddy list”, feel free to do so.
