TK-421 'Disengaged'

I’ve been watching Freaks And Geeks: The Complete Series on DVD from Netflix. I missed it the first time around when it ran on television and I remember all the good reviews about the show. It was written that Freaks And Geeks was the “be all, end all” when it came to high school coming of age shows. My friend Brad loved it and gave it 5 stars on Netflix.

It’s been on my queue for a long time and I finally got the first disc over a week ago. I wasn’t knocked over during the first 3 episodes and even considered taking it off my queue. I felt like it was wasting my time, but Brad’s “seal of approval” kept it there.

When I put in disc 2... Freak and Geeks finally started kicking in! I wouldn’t say that I’m crazy about it just yet, but I would say that it’s finding a warm place in my dark little heart.

I’ve also managed to watch Next Stop Wonderland and Shooter. I have to clean the stack off the entertainment center and get in a fresh new supply for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. I can’t be without entertainment with a lot more spare time on my hands.

Next Stop Wonderland is one of those Independent films that doesn’t feel all that Independent. It feels more like one of those big-budget major studio romantic schlock-fests except that the acting isn’t as good. I labored through the film because I was expecting a big payoff that never arrived.

I gave Next Stop Wonderland 3 out of 5 stars. I liked it, but I can’t recommend it.

Shooter is a film that’s heavy with style and body counts. It’s fun for the most part. It doesn’t really satisfy any sort of hunger after you’ve taken it all in. The only character that I found remotely interesting was only in there for about 5 minutes. He was the old man in Tennessee that was an expert on firearms and conspiracies. Why didn’t the writers take this character a little further? He was the most interesting of the bunch. Much more compelling than the plywood performance from Danny Glover that’s for sure.

But overall, I have to give this “candy” flick 3 stars because I did in fact enjoy it. So if you’re looking for a decent action picture with a high body count… Try Shooter.

--I logged onto yesterday and read some excellent news. Check it out for yourself and look Robby Gordon’s paint job for next year!

It looks as if my love affair with Jim Beam will continue for another year.

Yes, I know you may think it’s silly. But I back up my favorite driver by supporting his sponsors. Drinking my fair share of Jim Beam may cost me a liver, but I hear they can grow back. In my book, that’s a win-win situation.
